Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

4 Umlauts (Quan-te)
Nice pairing with Bushmills Irish Whiskey and an Old English Cropshire beer – or is that a ‘tripling’? This is the quintessential ‘guys’ movie that seems inclusive of race and class specifically focusing on the cockney underdog, but oddley there is almost zero female presence throughout the movie.
3.5 Umlauts (Derrik McTavish)
The boys made me THINK, and I was in a bitchy mood, so maybe I was a little tough on this one! The Lock was the fact that this was a Guy Ritchie brain storm that he did just cause he wanted to. One thing they rarely discuss in movies is hazardous materials and asbestos removal. The Stock was the gritty look, the drinking, the smoking, the gambling. and the two Smoking Barrels are the fact that this is an intricate pairing of Shakespearean comedy of errors and a beer soaked bro hustle. I liked the use of real characters. Especially when they resemble a Dick Tracy character. This movie works well when its just the boys and everyone has a shot and a beer in hand. And always remember, “Guns are for show. Knives are for pros”!
4 Umlauts (Franky Lee)
L,S,&2SB features Lenny McLean (aka: The Guv’nor), uses the word “fuck” 125 times, has a body count of 16, and was the film debut of Vinnie Jones, who had been released from jail the day before for beating up his neighbor. It is nearly a perfect film. Being Guy Ritchies sophomoric attempt, and first at feature length, I have to say it was worth the bread and honey. While a bit bloated, it still reminds you of a good night out down the rub-a-dub-dub with the chinas, but one you’ve never been too and has strange George Raft. Only one flash of Bristol, which isn’t needed at all, a plot that sticks because the characters are so likable-Statham is seen selling tomfoolery on a street corner at the beginning; something he actually did earlier in life. The movie is mustard. It makes me want to watch RockNrolla again soon.
